Washing

Have you washed dishes lately? What about clothes, have you washed any lately? Well, what about you, have you washed you, recently?

There are some people that must not think they need to wash themselves, but I meant one young man the other day that smelled so bad that the people two counties away, called complaining. The dead corn fields had enough life in them, to turn their stalks when he passed by. That young man needed a bath, two showers, and a gallon of some kind of sweet smelling sauce poured on him. It was bad.

I need to be washed on the inside from time to time. King David also needed a good inside wash job. Psalm 51:7 is part of David’s prayer where he ask to be washed on the inside.

“Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whither than snow.”

David was dirty on the inside all because of that problem we all have – sin.

Hyssop has been used as a holy herb, consecrated for cleaning holy places, for centuries. It has an intense minty aroma. It can be used in cooking and to flavor liqueur. It has been used medically to suppress coughs, and even in eye drops and mouthwash.

The point made by David is not to focus on the hyssop, but the cleaning. David, just like all of us need to be washed by the Spirit of God and cleansed, afresh and anew, from time to time. In a sense David, and we alike are just like dishes and clothes, we get dirty from time to time, therefore we need to be washed!

Pray that the Almighty will wash you. You may smell better, I’m not sure, but I know you will feel better!

Don’t forget to get up and get to church, this morning!
